Home Inspiration: Our Home Office

Slowly but surely this house of ours is coming together. We’re focusing on the top floors at the moment. One of which will be our home office. I’m so excited to move our mattress to the attic and start decorating our office. It will be the first time we will have our own office. At the moment we’re working from the couch, which is cosy but not comfortable.
I don’t know about you but I’m having a hard time finding furniture I really love. Desks are so ugly. I’ve looked everywhere but I just can’t seem to find a desk we really love. We’ve designed furniture before so for our home office we’ll be designing and making our own desks. It will be a learning process but I can’t wait to get started.
On another note, I’ve been thinking about getting some chickens. Here’s the pro’s and con’s list I made today while I should have been working on a client’s website.
Pro’s:
- they eat leftovers, reducing our waste
- they start out as chicks
- they fertilize the garden and eat snails
- eggs. Who doesn’t love eggs!
- I’d like to find out if you can train chickens
Con’s
- they fertilize the garden with poop
- our dog likes to hunt anything bird-like so I’m afraid she’ll constantly harass the chickens
- the chicken coop will take up a lot of the space in our small garden
- no more cons, chickens are awesome
Do you have some good home office inspiration resources? And how do you feel about chickens? Let me know!

They start out as chicks. No more pro’s needed.

EXACTLY! You can totally come and cuddle them!

I’m totally with you… desks are just horrible. I’ve found one for myself which I kind of like but in hindsight it’s kind of huge and impractical. I don’t think I’ll be able to move it back with me. I’m also always inspired by how other people design their study/office spaces (when done really well of course). I never feel satisfied that I’ve created a beautiful workspace. Also it’s so hard to maintain! Or maybe I’m just lazy.

Two months later and I still haven’t decided on what to do with the desk situation. Currently still working from the couch haha

Hi Ang, you soooo need to take chickens! I’ve been wanting them for ages. High maintenance though. Unfortunately my new landlord doesn’t allow pets. Just found a new place myself that’s gonna be my home for a couple of months. Thing in Australia is that most of the time you’re not allowed to paint the walls not drill a hole in the wall. But nothing I can’t get around. Tnx for the inspirational posts, digging it. Love from Perth!

Sanne!! How awesome are you, going to Australia all alone. I miss you and I’m looking forward to visiting you. (don’t know when, send me some money)

My sister-in-law has chickens in her backyard and she looooves them. I tried to get two for my husband when we lived in a big house with a big garden in Bishkek, but they must have been sick when I bought them and they only lasted a few days 🙁 but I would love to have chickens one day, and you should totally go for it! They seem pretty low-maintenance, but actually I have no idea. I would guess that shelter and food are the most difficult things to figure out. I know in the US, in cities that allow you to keep chickens, you can’t have a rooster, so when one of my sister-in-law’s chicks turned out to be a rooster, they cooked him up for dinner. Not sure if that is a pro or a con.

It sounds like a pro. Circle of life and stuff. You don’t have a garden in Ghent do you?

DUDE! I’ve been trying to talk Maarten into getting chickens for like a year now!!! No dice, even though we have a pretty big yard. Maybe you can convince him!
Angela // // //
How’s it going with the chickens? Did you get any yet?
Franca // // //
Yes to Chickens! When I was little my grandma had some ckicks and they were incredibly cute, a bit noisy at times but cute! 🙂

I’m still undecided. I might wait until next year. Chickens are awesome but also a commitment.

Fresh eggs every morning? That’s a pro enough for me, I’d love to have chickens one day…
Also, designing your own desks sounds awesome, cannot wait to hear more about that, these inspiration images are all gorgeous!

My neighbour has chickens and she shares her eggs with us. They are super tiny and they are the best. Still haven’t decided if we should get chickens. I was also thinking about a goat…

I just love when a house starts feeling like a home. And one day I dream of having chickens, though maybe when we have more space. My grandmother actually had peacocks roaming her yard when we lived in California. Sadly, they were kind of mean 🙂

How awesome is your grandmother! Who has peacocks as a pet!

We just moved into a new home before the holidays and my office is completely set up, other than some personalized decor. I like the addition of a couple of plants – would be nice to add a touch of life to this space.

I’m trying to buy furniture for a house now too and it seems like everything I love is obscenely overpriced. Good luck with your decorating!
